The Basics

The Active Transportation Plan is scheduled for completion in fall 2027. This survey runs through July 26 and there will be additional  opportunities for you to share your thoughts about walking, rolling, and bicycling needs and priorities in Washington County.

What will this project accomplish?

  • Reconsidering Street Design: Investigating updates to our roadway design standards that demonstrate Washington County’s commitment to complete streets and improve safety, comfort, and accessibility for everyone who uses our transportation system.
  • Identifying Future Projects: Gathering ideas and evaluating which transportation improvements could best fill network gaps and strengthen connections to transit, schools, parks, and other key destinations.

  • Studying Ways to Improve Walkability: Examining opportunities to make walking easier—such as wider sidewalks, safer crossings, and enhancements along major corridors and bus routes.

  • Assessing Bicycle Network Upgrades: Looking into bicycle facility enhancements such as separated bike lanes, safer intersections, and other improvements that could make biking more comfortable for more people.

  • Evaluating Safe, Low‑Stress Routes: Considering options for neighborhood bikeways that could support walking and biking for people of all ages and abilities.

  • Exploring Trail Connections: Identifying missing trail links and learning where new connections could strengthen our regional trail network.

  • Reviewing Maintenance Needs: Studying how to maintain bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails so they stay clean, safe, and accessible throughout the year.
